How To become a Software Engineer in Six Months?
This is a success story of a friend who went onto become a software engineer in just six months and landed a job with a six-figure salary. The guy I am speaking doesn’t want to reveal his name so let’s just call him Tom.
Tom is an engineer by degree but doesn’t have any knowledge of software as he is from a mechanical background and forced switch career due to a high demand for software engineers and better pay.
Tom had only two things that attributed to his growth, he had the sheer commitment and will to learn new things. When Tom decided to learn about programming he had applied for various online courses which could teach several programming languages including Java, Python and C# but eventually decided to learn things on his own.
Tom, started out my attending several Meetups organised through Meetup platform which allowed him to get acquainted with several startups, software developers and me!!!
Meetups played a major role in Tom’s growth as a Software Engineer
How Tom etched himself to become a software engineer?
Getting acquainted with software developers, skyrocketed Tom’s interest in software development. Now he is aware that the coding process is more easy and merrier when the developer has good problem-solving skills. I remember, him asking stupid questions during one of the meetups but also realized that his questions started to make sense in a couple of months (He was working his ass off).
Contributions to Open-Source projects:
In three months, Tom had attended more than 50 Meetups across several cities and got acquainted with more than 100 developers. In the meantime, he had learned Html and PHP thanks to his newfound acquaintances.
Conclusion:
After learning the basics of Html and PHP, Tom started to contribute several open-source projects. Six months had passed during this process and Tom had now applied for the role of Software Engineer at The Banyan Infotech (The Software Company in Coimbatore, that I work for). He passed out the interviews process that included a whiteboard coding like a walk in the park and got the job with a six-figure salary.
To Tom “You are one of the best Software Engineers that The Banyan Infotech has ever got. Thank you for your dedication, hard work and this inspiring story.”
